You will recognize the unique old fashioned flathead copper rivets that set these items apart from copies along with functional features like: Canvas welting in our seams that swells with moisture to seal the seam and its needle holes. Nylon welting used by mass produced copies looks attractive but draws water into the bag like a wick. One of these duffels was the only bag with dry contents after traveling through eight hours of rain, snow and sleet on a roof carrier between St. Paul, Minnesota and Waynard, Saskatchewan. Heavy, breathable 18 oz. double filled treated canvas that is water and mildew resistant. Beautiful 5 1/2 oz. top grain cowhide. Sturdy 9 oz. bullhide buckle spears. Double stitching with unbreakable thread. Heavy YKK zippers. All raw cut leather edges are edge dyed. Internal seams are neatly bound, not left ragged. Flaps are contoured to cover openings. With age and use these bags develop their own natural patina. The canvas will soften and fade to a well-traveled look while the leather will self-polish to its own unique, subtle shades. |
